How To Improve Your Fuel Economy

By consuming fuel at unprecedented rates, we are not just spending more money, but we’re causing irreparable damage to the environment as well. The irresponsible use of non-renewable resources can negatively impact our future. Apart from just burning a hole in your pockets, the use of fuel for cars is also burning a huge hole in the environment. Here a few ways that you can improve your car’s fuel economy while protecting the world around us.

Don’t Wait With Your Engine On

If you’re making a quick stop somewhere or waiting at a long red light, turn off your car as soon as you can. Idling when you are stopped drains the fuel from your tank. Make sure you that you get in the habit of turning off your engine during those mid-journey stops.

Choose Your Motor Oil Wisely

Always ask your vehicle manufacturer or dealership which motor oil will is best for your car. The reason behind this is that while making the model of your car, several tests are performed to determine which motor oil performs the best for that specific vehicle. Good motor oil is extremely important helping prevent friction within the internal parts of your car. If the amount of friction within the vehicle increases, the engine has to work harder. This is why it is important to make sure you are using the best oil for your car.

Beware of Deflated Tires

Before you drive anywhere, make sure that your tires are properly inflated. If your tires are underinflated, they tend to lose out on their smoothness, thereby increasing their rolling resistance. This can end up burning a lot of your fuel since your engine’s workload is greatly increased. Always keep a tab on your tires’ air pressure.

Moderate Your Speed

Never speed just because the road is clear. Shaving a few minutes off your trip might not seem like it will make a big difference, but it will end up affecting both your wallet and Mother Nature. Keep your speed at an average and abide by the speed limit if you don’t want to end up using too much fuel. Always remember not to put too much pressure on your accelerator since it indirectly puts a heavy load on your engine, causing it to work overtime and use more fuel in the process.

These are a few ways that you can help save both fuel and the environment.
