When and How to Rotate Tires

Tires are an all-important element that helps you ensure the safety of your car by balancing and keeping it running smooth. That’s why it’s important to make sure that you take care of your tires too. In order to do this, you have to make it a point to rotate your car’s tires frequently.  Tires are the sole element that keeps your car or vehicle gripped on to the road, be it wind or hail. It is thus important for your tires to have even wear so that they stay efficient for a longer span of time.

Tires have a way of getting worn out unevenly, but once you rotate your tires, the wear becomes even on all fronts keeping your car running efficiently and a lot safer. If you aren’t in the habit of rotating your tires, here’s why it is important. When you drive your car, the two front tires work a lot more compared to the rear ones. This results in the front tires wearing more uneven as compared to the rear tires. Hence, to evenly wear the tires, it is important to rotate or exchange their positions, using whichever pattern you deem fit.

The Ideal Time Frame

It is important to get your tires rotated frequently in order to ensure the safety of all your travels. You can either give your car away for servicing and rotation to your dealer, or you can do it yourself every once in a while. The standard measure as to when you should ideally go in for rotating your tires is after every six months, with the end of each season or at the completion of 5,000 to 6,000 miles that you travel.

If you refrain from rotating your tires, it can cost you since the tires in the front may wear out a lot quicker than you’d expect, ultimately giving you no choice but to buy new ones in place. This is why you must engage in this task with the stipulated time frame.

Rotating Tires Yourself

In case you’re looking to rotate the tires all by yourself in the comfort of your own garage, here is all that you need to know about the process. It is important to first decide the pattern in which you want to change the tires. This will not leave you confused once the actual process begins.

The tools that you need for the job are a car jack and two jack stands to lift the car up effectively enough for you to maneuver. Once you have all things in place, make sure that your car is in one position, with the parking brake working to keep it from moving.

Once everything is set, put the car jack and stands in place underneath a tire that you think will be effective. Before you do this, make sure you loosen the lugs out of each tire. Reach out, exchange the tires as per your pattern and tighten the lugs evenly on all four tires.

There you have it! A perfect tire rotation means you can enjoy your current tires even longer.
